Pick of the Day 12/23

Valley of the Dolls. I'm out of town, so sorry for the delay. I am working on a longer piece about Schrader's Cat People which I will probably be posting later today or at some point tomorrow. It's going to be a smutty christmas having already planned to watch Mommy Dearest (which I've actually never seen!) and Valley (which I own). But there will be some quality. 2046 is on the list, too. till later...

I suppose it's not exactly necessary that you see Wong Kar-wai's 'In the Mood for Love' before seeing '2046,' since the film is, essentially, a sequel. More so than 'Dawn of the Dead' is a sequel to 'Night of the Living Dead,' perhaps less so than 'Cheaper by the Dozen' and its unwanted continuation. 'In the Mood for Love' lays the groundwork for an understanding of Tony Leung's character as he is in '2046.' Since you haven't seen any of Kar-wai's other films (particularly: 'Chungking Express,' 'Days of Being Wild,' and 'Happy Together'), I find it difficult to suggest you watch '2046' this weekend. Oh well, harsher crimes have been committed (so I hear).
